Florida Firefighters Rescue Horse from Unexpected Pool Plunge

Created: JANUARY 22, 2025

In a surprising turn of events, firefighters in Zephyrhills, Florida, found themselves rescuing a horse from an above-ground swimming pool on Tuesday, June 20th. The horse, named Mo, was startled by another horse and attempted a daring jump, aiming to clear the pool. However, Mo's jump fell short, landing him in the water, where he quickly realized escape was impossible.

Pasco County Fire Rescue responded to the scene on Frontier Drive around 5:30 p.m. after receiving a call about the trapped horse. The team utilized specialized large animal rescue equipment and a John Deere tractor to carefully hoist Mo out of the pool. One firefighter even entered the pool to soothe the understandably distressed horse while others secured the harness for the lift.

Mo's owner, Cindy Buckel, recounted the incident to CBS 47, describing Mo's leap as "beautiful," even joking that he would have received a perfect 10 if it were a diving competition.
