Chicago Supermarket Worker Fatally Shot, Boyfriend Arrested

A tragic incident unfolded Thursday morning in a suburban Chicago supermarket, resulting in the death of a young employee. Police have apprehended her boyfriend in connection with the fatal shooting.

According to Evergreen Park Police Chief Michael Saunders, surveillance footage from inside the Mariano's store captured the moments leading up to the tragedy. The video shows 21-year-old Jailene Flores of Chicago walking away from her boyfriend shortly before the shooting. Around 9:15 a.m., Flores was shot multiple times and discovered deceased in a storage area within the store.

Law enforcement officials, utilizing expressway license plate readers and traffic cameras, tracked the suspect to Chicago's North Side. During the apprehension, police recovered a firearm believed to be the weapon used in the shooting. The suspect's identity has not yet been publicly released.

In a statement following the incident, Mariano’s expressed condolences and support for those affected by the tragedy. The company has also made counseling services available to its employees.
