Adrian Peterson Faces Legal Issues Over Child Support Cases

Created: JANUARY 26, 2025

Former NFL star Adrian Peterson is facing legal challenges stemming from two child support cases in Texas. Warrants have been issued for his arrest due to his failure to appear in court, according to USA Today. Peterson's publicist, Denise White, stated that the situation is a "misunderstanding" regarding court appearances and that Peterson is actively working with his legal team to resolve the matter promptly.

This isn't Peterson's first encounter with financial and legal difficulties. Despite earning over $100 million during his NFL career, the former Minnesota Vikings running back has faced challenges with bank loans and other financial obligations. Court records from February indicate he had not paid any of the $8.3 million owed to DeAngelo Vehicle Sales LLC, a debt ordered over three years prior. He was also ordered to pay a creditor $2.4 million in 2019 and settled a debt with a Minnesota bank the previous year.

Peterson's past includes a 2014 incident where he missed nearly the entire season following an indictment on charges of reckless or negligent injury to a child. He pleaded no contest to assaulting his then 4-year-old son with a tree branch. In 2022, he was arrested after an incident with his wife on a plane, though charges were dropped after his wife clarified it as an argument.

Despite these off-field issues, Peterson's on-field accomplishments remain significant. He amassed 14,918 rushing yards, led the league in rushing three times, and is one of six running backs to achieve a 2,000-yard rushing season. He came just eight yards short of breaking Eric Dickerson's single-season record in 2012 and holds the record for most rushing yards in a single game with 296, set during his rookie season.
